These terms govern your use of FREEMENCOUNCIL.ORG (the "site"), including any course, ebook or other digital product offered through it. By reading, downloading or purchasing material from the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. What the site is
FREEMENCOUNCIL.ORG is an independent publication offering historical, educational, archival, scholarly and interpretive material concerning authority, law, obligation and related subjects. Despite the word "Council" in its name, it is not a governmental body, court, tribunal, law firm, bar association, legal authority or formally constituted council of any kind, and it does not speak on behalf of any of them.
2. Not legal advice
Everything published or sold through the site, including the Mil.L. course and any companion volumes or ebooks, is provided for informational and educational purposes only. It does not constitute legal advice, is not a substitute for advice from a qualified lawyer, and does not create an attorney–client or any other professional relationship. Laws differ between jurisdictions and change over time, and historical or interpretive material may not reflect current law. No outcome in any court, tribunal or dealing with any authority is promised or implied. You should consult qualified counsel about your own circumstances before acting on anything you read here, and you remain solely responsible for your own decisions.
3. Free access
The archive, including articles and Archive Library downloads, is available free of charge and without an account. Sign-in exists only for editorial staff who maintain the archive.
4. Paid digital products
Some offerings, such as the Mil.L. course and certain ebooks, are sold separately. Prices are shown at the point of sale. Payment and, where applicable, course enrollment and delivery are handled by third-party providers, whose own terms and privacy practices also apply to your transaction.
A purchase grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the product for your own private study. It does not transfer ownership of the content. You may not resell, redistribute, share access credentials, upload, publicly post or otherwise make purchased files or course material available to others.
5. All sales are final
Because our products are digital and are delivered or made accessible immediately upon purchase, they cannot be returned. All sales are final and non-refundable once access has been granted or a file has been delivered, except where a refund is required by applicable law. Where the law of your country gives you a right to cancel a digital purchase, you agree, by completing the purchase, that delivery begins immediately and that you thereby acknowledge the loss of that cancellation right to the extent the law allows.
If a file is corrupted, cannot be opened, or was not delivered, contact us at contact@freemencouncil.org and we will provide a working copy or restore access. Chargebacks or payment disputes opened without first contacting us may result in access to the product being withdrawn.
6. Use of material
You may read, download and share free archive material for personal, educational and research purposes, provided you do not alter it, misrepresent its source, or use it commercially without permission. Quotation with attribution to FREEMENCOUNCIL.ORG is welcome. Historical source documents reproduced on the site may be in the public domain; original commentary, compilations, course material, ebooks, designs and covers remain the property of their authors and are protected by copyright.
7. Accuracy
We aim for accuracy, but all material, free or paid, is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to completeness, accuracy, currency or fitness for a particular purpose. Interpretive and analytical pieces reflect a point of view and may be contested.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FREEMENCOUNCIL.ORG, its operators and contributors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its material, including any legal, financial or procedural outcome. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the product concerned, if any.
9. Your responsibility
You agree to indemnify FREEMENCOUNCIL.ORG and its operators against claims, losses and costs arising from your misuse of the site or its material, or from your breach of these terms.
10. Acceptable use
Please do not attempt to disrupt the site, gain unauthorized access to its editorial systems or paid content, scrape it with automated means that place an unreasonable load on it, or use it for any unlawful purpose. We may suspend or withdraw access for anyone who breaches these terms.
11. External links and services
The site may refer to external sources and rely on third-party services for payment and course delivery. We are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.
12. General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms are the entire agreement between you and us concerning the site.
13. Governing law
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising from your use of the site or your purchase of a product, are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts located in Maryland have jurisdiction over such disputes. Where the mandatory consumer-protection law of the country in which you normally reside gives you the right to bring a claim there, this clause does not limit that right.
14. Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised. Purchases are governed by the terms in force at the time of purchase.
15. Contact
Questions about these terms, a purchase, or a file that did not arrive should be sent to contact@freemencouncil.org.
