This policy describes what information FREEMENCOUNCIL.ORG (the "site") actually processes. In short: reading and downloading from the archive requires no account, and we collect no personal information from readers.
1. Readers
You can read articles, search the archive and download Reading Room files without signing up or providing any information. The site does not use analytics platforms, advertising trackers, marketing cookies, behavioral profiling, newsletters or comment systems, and it does not sell or share personal information.
Search terms you enter are placed in the page address and used only to display results; they are not stored by the site.
2. Technical information processed for normal operation
Like any website, the servers and networks that deliver the site necessarily receive technical information with each request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page or file requested. This is processed by our hosting and file-delivery providers to serve the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse, and may be retained in standard server logs for a limited period. We do not use it to identify or profile readers.
The site's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google's servers to retrieve them, which necessarily shares your IP address with Google under Google's own privacy terms.
3. Editorial staff
A private sign-in exists only for staff who maintain the archive. For those accounts, the site stores an email address and a securely hashed password, and keeps a sign-in session in the browser's local storage so staff remain signed in. Readers are never asked to sign in.
4. Cookies and local storage
The site sets no cookies for readers. Browser storage is used only to hold an editorial staff member's sign-in session.
5. Your choices
Because we do not collect personal information from readers, there is typically nothing to access or delete. Editorial staff may ask for their account to be removed at any time.
6. Contact
Privacy questions, or a request concerning an editorial staff account, can be sent to contact@freemencouncil.org.
7. Changes
If the site's practices change, this policy will be updated and the date at the top of the page revised.
